Learn how to replace your Blackwing Pen cartridge, and find out which cartridges are compatible. Follow along below for step-by-step instructions with detailed photos.Â
Step 1: Remove the Magnetic Cap
Pull the magnetic cap away from the top of the pen to remove it. You should feel a slight pull from the magnet, but it should release with ease.Â
Step 2: Unscrew the Clicker MechanismÂ
Gently twist the clicker mechanism counterclockwise until it is detached from the cartridge and set it aside. It helps to keep all removed pieces in order for easier reassembly.Â
Step 3: Remove the Old Cartridge
Tilt the pen to release the cartridge from the body.
Step 4: Remove the SpringÂ
Carefully remove the spring from the old cartridge and set it aside.Â
Step 5: Attach the Spring to the New Cartridge
Slide the smaller end of the spring onto the new ink cartridge first. If the pen isn't writing, double-check this step. Using the larger end first is a common issue.
Step 6: Insert the New CartridgeÂ
Place the new cartridge back into the pen with the rollerball tip first. Make sure the spring is correctly positioned (See Step 5).
Step 7: Reattach the Clicker MechanismÂ
Gently twist the clicker mechanism back onto the pen clockwise until snug.
Step 8: Put the Cap Back On
Bring the magnetic cap close to the top of the Blackwing Pen and allow it to snap back into place on its own.
Your pen should now be refilled and ready to go. You can replace the cartridge with any capless roller cartridge. The Blackwing Pen refills are coming soon! Order your first Blackwing Pen here!
