Earth Day should be celebrated every day, and today is a great reminder of that. There are countless ways to help the planet, but we're highlighting six simple tips you can easily begin practicing.

Being intentional in your daily choices matters. We're all for building habits that are good not just for your own well-being, but for the planet's too. Small changes, made consistently, really do add up. Think about drawing, the more you practice, the better you get. And it's not just about the skill itself, it's about carving out that quiet intentional time in a busy world. Sustainability works the same way. The more you practice it, the more natural it becomes, and the more good it does for the Earth. From monitoring expiration dates to choosing sustainably made products, we not only nurture our planet but also enhance our well-being and the well-being of those around us.

1. Track Before You Toss

Keep a sticky note or small pad on the fridge with a list of what's closest to expiring. A 10-second glance each morning can significantly cut your food waste. If your eggs, meat, and spinach all expire the next day, plan to have eggs with cooked spinach for breakfast and meat with a spinach salad on the side for dinner. This is one example of many; being conscious of which foods will expire sooner than others could help you make meals more intentionally. It’s always nice to save money in the long run and reduce waste.

2. Freeze Your Food

Bread going stale? Cheese you won't finish in time? Leftovers from two nights ago? Freeze them now, not when it's too late. When you need to use the bread again, you can heat it in the toaster or on the stovetop. Most frozen foods can last several more weeks past their expiration date, helping you avoid food waste and overbuying.

3. Buy the Refill

Cleaning sprays, hand soap, and even some pantry staples come in concentrated or refill form. Same product, fraction of the plastic. Cutting down on plastic waste is more important than ever, and refills also tend to last longer and cost less over time.

4. Fix Broken Items

When something breaks, search "[item] repair near me" before assuming it's trash. Repairing instead of replacing saves you money and keeps perfectly fixable things out of the landfill.

5. Clean Up Your Computer

Delete old emails and cloud files. Data storage has a real carbon footprint. Clearing the clutter is worth it, as it also makes navigating your devices a little easier and less stressful.

6. Shop Sustainably Made Products

Our pencils are crafted from incense-cedar that is harvested on a sustained-yield basis, meaning more trees are planted than are cut down. All of Blackwing’s product packaging is also recyclable. Learn more about a company's processes to ensure you contribute to healthy practices.
