xLab 07.29.21 is the second installment in our Labs series. With this Lab, we’re experimenting with a non-photo blue core that disappears in scans and photocopies. The design for this Lab features a blue and natural two-toned barrel, silver ferrule, silver clip, white eraser, and white imprint. Each set includes 12 pencils.
We made 2500 sets of Lab 07.29.21. Each box is individually numbered to mark its authenticity.
Blackwing Labs are small batch pencil releases that offer a fun look at our design process. The results may see us experimenting with new features, or putting new spins on old favorites. Each pencil will be foil stamped with the date of the release, and each box will be numbered by batch.

I recently was forced to upgrade my phone as the battery was not happy and it was old. Not that I take issue with older technology I mean we are here mostly for analog letterpress printing “stuff” right? Anyway I went chips all in on a 12 pro max, and as a result it’s got “our best camera ever” as the fruit named device people claim. I gotta say so far they aren’t kidding, this thing uses LiDAR technology which I don’t even know what that means but I think it’s like when your tuner knob goes to 11. What I am just testing and going to enjoy is the ability to switch from wide to ultra wide and telephoto with a tap of the screen. Here are some tests with camera in roughly the same place and switched between each.
