The Blackwing Clutch Notebook
Introducing the Blackwing Clutch Notebook
Â
A new spin on the pocket notebook.
Â
Â
We wanted more space for our ideas to take shape, but we didn’t want to comprise size in order to get it. A pocket notebook is only a pocket notebook if it can fit in your pocket, after all.
While we were going through the John Muir archives doing research for the Blackwing 211, we noticed he would often turn his notebooks sideways when he needed a larger canvas for an especially detailed study or some especially complex notation. This gave us an idea. If we can’t create more space in our pocket notebook, maybe we can help people think about that space in a different way. The Clutch Notebook was born.
Â
Â
We designed the notebook to open like a clamshell rather than a book. So, while the notebook measures 9cm x 14cm, the usable workspace is actually 18cm x 14cm.
The Clutch will be available in lined, plain and dot-grid. The lined version is printed with the clamshell layout in mind, while dot-grid and plain notebook have the freedom to use whichever orientation they prefer.
Â
Â
The cover of the notebook features the same durable matte black material found on the the Blackwing Slate. It wears well, repels water, and can take the bumps and bruises of everyday use.
Â
Â
This unique material is wrapped around a cover stock that strives for the ideal balance between support and flexibility. The result is a notebook cover that is rigid enough to support your writing when you don't have a solid surface nearby, but flexible enough to be rolled up in our Pencil Roll or tucked in a pocket.
Â
Â
Between the covers, each Clutch Notebook features 48 pages of 100GSM paper. These pages are sewn-bound together before being glued to the cover, allowing each notebook to open completely without fear of loose pages or busted binding. This also allows the Clutch Notebook to lay flat.
